3 First-Time Car Buyer Tips

Whether you’re a recent graduate with your first job, or someone that’s been relying on public transportation and wants to get wheels of your own, buying your first car can be an interesting experience! Sometimes it can be an uncertain one, too, bringing with it a lot of unknowns for you to experience. Thankfully, we at Fairley & Stevens Ford understand this and have prepared a few tips for you!

Establish Your Realistic Budget

One of the most important things you can do before buying a vehicle is to establish what you can afford overall. This means what you can afford for a down payment, and then what you can afford to pay per month. It’s ideal to pay all of it yourself, but that’s very unlikely, and so financing will likely be the way to go.

Look at all your living expenses, and don’t forget to factor in your insurance increases, when looking into a new car!

Identify Priority Needs

Do you live in a cold climate that gets a lot of snow and ice? If so, you might want all-wheel drive on your new vehicle, or heated seats. How about how often you find yourself going up north, or on road trips? You might need more space. Make sure you think about what you need with your new vehicle, and what you can expect to do with it when you’re purchasing!

Take a Test Drive

Always make sure that you test drive the vehicles that you’re interested in! This allows you to get a feel for it and determine if it’s something that you would like to get behind the wheel of. Sometimes a car may appear to be one of your dreams, but dramatically changes when you’re sitting in the driver’s seat.

These are just three tips of many for those that are looking to buy their first real vehicle, there are a ton more that we can offer you! Contact us at Fairley & Stevens Ford today to learn more about what you should do or can expect when you’re buying your first vehicle!
